Richard M. Bales, Jr. is a seasoned trial lawyer recognized for taking on complex cases and building strategies to resolve even the most complicated legal issues in commercial and business litigation matters. He is the founder of Bales Sommers and Klein and is esteemed as one of Miami’s finest courtroom trial attorneys.
His practice spans over 40 years and includes more than 100 cases tried to verdict in state and federal courts. He has also handled over 50 appeals and has argued and prevailed in cases before the Florida Supreme Court and the Eleventh Circuit Court of Appeals.
Mr. Bales handles partnership and corporate breakups, professional liability matters, contract and real estate disputes and intellectual property issues. His clients include real estate developers, entrepreneurs, business owners and brokers, high net-worth individuals and some of the best known professional athletes and entertainers. Because of his extensive litigation experience, he is called upon to take cases to trial by partner law firms.
Earlier in his career, Mr. Bales was a clerk to the Honorable Peter Fay on the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals. He is also a Florida Certified Mediator. He received a law degree from the Cumberland School of Law and is member of the Florida and Alabama Bars.
Rick, as he is known to close friends and associates, spends his free time in the mountains of Tennessee.

Jason Klein

Jason is a strong advocate and a trusted advisor to his clients, bringing nearly 25 years of experience as an attorney, strategist, and business counselor.

In his practice, he represents clients in a broad array of commercial and business matters, including real estate and construction disputes, shareholder, partnership, and contractual disputes, will and trust contests, as well as insurance, securities and employment litigation. He also represents secured and unsecured creditors in foreclosure and bankruptcy proceedings, and represents individuals injured due to the negligence of others in significant personal injury and product liability matters.

He is recognized as a go-to litigator for claims involving attorneys, accountants, architects, engineers, insurance agents and appraisers, as well as corporate directors and officers. Over the years, he has been called upon by other lawyers to act as an expert on attorneys’ fees, and has testified as an expert in fee disputes in state and federal courts.

In addition to his national clientele, he has established deep relationships with colleagues in Brazil and throughout South America and is frequently retained to recover investor losses due to financial fraud or negligence, to enforce foreign judgments in Florida and to collect on US-based assets, appearing in State and Federal Courts in Florida and other jurisdictions, in arbitrations before the American Arbitration Association (AAA), and the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA).

Before joining Bales Sommers and Klein, Jason worked with some of Florida’s most prestigious law firms, including the state’s largest law firm, where he focused on commercial disputes and the defense of general and professional liability claims. He received a JD from The University of Miami School of Law in 1997 and a BA from the State University of New York at Albany. When he is not in the courtroom, he enjoys travelling to wine producing regions, skiing and mentoring young lawyers.
